Mocha Moms is a support group for mothers of color who have chosen not to work full-time outside of the home in order to devote more time to their families and communities. While many of our members have eliminated employment altogether, others work part-time, flex-time, night shifts, have home-based businesses, consult or freelance from home or have chosen alternative, less demanding career paths so that they are more available to their families.

Our goal is to support the decisions made by our members. We will never pass judgment on mothers who choose to make or are forced to make different decisions for their families.

The Phoenix Chapter of Mocha Moms
was founded in 2002, and continues to thrive today.  Our chapter serves all of metropolitan Phoenix, from East Mesa to West Buckeye and everywhere in between.

Our regularly scheduled meetings are held in Central Phoenix and our support group activities occur at various locations throughout the valley.

Here is a listing of activities we currently engage in.
To join us at any of these activities, contact our membership chair at:

Support Groups: We hold at least 2 playgroups per month in Central Phoenix, where we let the children bond and enjoy making new friends.  But it's also a great time for our Mochas to catch up and offer support to one another.  Children are always welcome.

Moms Night Out: Monthly, all Mochas come together for a planned weekend activity.  It's another opportunity to hook up with our Mocha sisters and enjoy a child-free night out.  Our MNO activities may include seeing a play, attending a Pajama Party or pampering ourselves at a local spa, just to name a few.

Community Service: Always willing to give something back, Mochas Moms participate in various Community Activities and volunteer our time to causes that are meaningful to us.

Family Activities: We plan a few activities during the year where the entire Mocha family is invited.  One of our most popular events is the Annual Spring Picnic.

Children's Activities: Our Coordinator puts together educational events that give our children the opportunity to visit unique and interesting places and enjoy a learning experience like no other.

Scrap Booking Club:  Our creative Mochas gather regularly to organize their photo treasures. It's a great time to visit, laugh and share some creative memories.
All about Mocha Moms

Mocha Moms, Inc. began with the publishing of a newsletter called Mocha Moms in the hopes of connecting with other at-home mothers of color across the country. The newsletter was intended to encourage these mothers to feel good about their choice as well as to provide information to help them be the best and most important influence in their children’s lives.

The first Mocha News was distributed to over 100 moms across the country in the spring of 1997. From this newsletter the original moms decided to form a support group called Mocha Moms, Inc. The first support group meeting was held in October of that year, in Cheverly, MD. There are now over 100 chapters throughout the United States and the organization is continually growing and evolving to meet the needs of our moms, their families, and the communities they live in.

Mocha Moms, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Mocha Moms, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, socio-economic level, education, or religion. Anyone who supports the mission and purpose of Mocha Moms, Inc. is welcome to join.
